Drill three angled injection wells at Los Alamos National Laboratories (LANL) in New Mexico.
The wells were drilled at up to a 25-degree angle from vertical to depths ranging from 1,100 to 1,300 ft. bgs. with a 25 ft. radius target at total depth. Well completions were 8 5/8 in. diameter welded stainless steel casings and screens including a 3-inch stainless steel permanent pump and injection system.
Formations consisted of a series of welded volcanic tuff units underlain by alluvial fan sediments with interbeds of basalt flows.
The DR-24 HD drill rig utilized fluid-assisted (foaming agent) dual rotary with casing advance.
Client: US Dept. of Energy
Drill Rig: DR-24 HD
Drilling Method: Dual Rotary
Duration: 7 Months
Completed: September 2016
Drill, sample, install and develop twenty-one 2 in. monitoring wells and nine 6 in. injection wells at the Hanford Superfund site in the 300-FF-5 OU, FY2015. The wells range in depth from 35 ft. to 60 ft. The wells will be used to remediate uranium found in the soil and groundwater in this area. Uranium sequestration will be achieved by injecting phosphate solutions into the vadose and groundwater zones.
Formations consisted of alluvial materials composed of loose sands, gravels, cobbles, and boulders. Despite severe heaving sand conditions all wells were completed successfully.
Client: CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Contract (CHPRC)
Drill Rig: TSi 150 CC, rubber track rig
Drilling Method: Sonic
Duration: 3 Months
Completed: August 2015
The University of Washington is in the preliminary stages of expanding the Tacoma campus.
Temporary surface casings were set to depths up to 30 ft. to eliminate downward migration of contaminates during the drilling and well installation process. Twenty-eight 2 in. wells using 8 in. and 6 in. temporary casings and three 4 in. wells using 10 in. and 8 in. temporary casings were installed. Well depths were up to 100 ft.
Air knife vacuum truck was used to safely locate underground utilities prior to drilling.
Challenges: right of way restrictions, restricted work hours, numerous underground utilities, existing vegetation, buildings, pedestrians, and motor vehicle traffic.
Client: GeoEngineers
Drill Rig: TSi 150CC, rubber track rig
Drilling Method: Sonic
Duration: 1.5 months
Completed: September 2016
Drill, sample, install, complete, and develop four groundwater monitoring wells (4 in. dia. ea.) adjacent to the Nonradioactive Dangerous Waste Landfill (NRDWL) and adjoining the Solid Waste Landfill (SWL) in the 200-PO-1 Operable Unit. Boreholes were drilled to depths of 165 ft. to 170 ft. in formations consisting of loose sands, gravels, cobbles and cemented conglomerates.
Client: CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Contract (CHPRC)
Drill Rig: TSi 150CC, rubber track rig with temporary telescoping casing sizes of 10 in. and 8 in. diameters
Drilling Method: Sonic
Duration: 2 months
Completed: August 2015
Drill, collect isolated ground water samples, install wells, well head completions, and well development in support of clean-up efforts in the 200-ZP-1 Operable Unit.
To meet the owner's milestone completion dates, drilling crews worked overtime hours and implemented a 24-hour operation. Additional resources and equipment were added to complete the project prior to the deadline dates.
Client: CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Contractor (CHPRC)
Drill Rig: DR-24 for drilling and 22W cable tool rig for well installations
Drilling Method: Dual Rotary
Duration: 7 months
Completed: December 2015
This project demonstrates the high level of quality services that Holt Services, Inc. provides to its clients on a routine basis. The equipment and personnel commitment for a relatively small project was large.
The Holt Services, Inc. team used a Mobile B-59 hollow stem auger rig to drill, collect split spoon samples on five foot intervals, then install and develop three 2 in. PVC monitoring wells to depths of 25 ft. each at a 7-Eleven convenience store in Federal Way, WA.
All drilling locations were potentially riddled with utilities that needed positive locating. Prior to drilling, the surface was cored and our air knife vacuum system was used at each location to locate utilities to avoid causing any damage to them.
Challenging conditions included: drilling in an urban area on city streets, sidewalks with pedestrians, busy city traffic, and drilling locations potentially riddled with utilities.
Client: Stantec
Drill Rig: Mobile B-59
Drilling Method: Hollow Stem Auger
Duration: 2 days
Completed: March 2016
Conduct environmental soil sampling at three locations: one location inside the main facilities building and two locations outside the building.
Continuous push probe soil samples were retrieved in 5 ft. lengths. The samples were cut down to 2.5 ft. lengths, capped, and transported offsite to a lab for testing.
Holt's rubber track mounted Geoprobe rig is ideal for limited access locations. This rubber track rig can drive across floors and other surfaces without damaging them.
Client: Aspect Consulting
Drill Rig: Geoprobe rubber track mounted rig
Drilling Method: Direct Push
Duration: 1 day
Completed: October 2014
